E320 model 1995 automatic

Well guys i have the subject wagon. I am not getting my 5th gear at all. Maybe this model came with this problem. I have driven four gear tranmission in my previous Merc, never had any problem in that.

My Mechanic had checked all the electronic circuts but could not trace the fault. I am now moving in 4 years. Otherwise the gear shifting from 1st to 4 th is ok. Now there is no Od (5th gear)

I have changed the tranny oil with the new filter but there is no improvement in getting the 5th gear on.

Anyone can tell what could be the problem

Check vaccum line between intake manifold, ignition control unit, otherwise check the electric again, check loose connection at throttle control switch ,check for loose wiring connection between TCM and transmission.

I am pretty certain that the 5 speed electronic transmission 722.6 didn't show up in the 124 series at all. It started with the W210 series.

722.6 five speed wasn't in the 124 but the 722.5 was - although not in the U.S.

Deanyel is correct. There was discussion about that subject about four years ago.

It's the 722,5 and the transmission is vaccum controld but the fifth gear is a electronic switch you press the stick left and the switch put the transmission out of the 5 gear only shift in 4th gear.

If you have 5th gear at WOT, the vacuum line between the intake manifold and EZL/AKR is disconnected or cracked. If you still don’t have 5th, use an impulse counter to check for fault codes.

I wanted to thank all of you for your feedback. Will definately look around the vacum lines and will keep you updated.

The second option which i have is that i am getting a very good gear box of my model. It is still in the car. The car had an accident but the engine and the gear are safe. So i might be getting it if mine is not fixed up.

Well thanks God my 5th gear problem is solved finally. Well the mechanic concerened who is also a good electrician traced the fault. Nothing was coming on the computer check, i mean any fault. So he started checking all the points like Relay No 9, then the switch which is attached with the gear shifter lever which from the "D" drive can be shifted for manual, and the last connection of the swith which goes in the transmission oil pan through the switch mentioned above.

He lifted the rear left wheel of the car with a jack and then two guys sat in the car one on the driving seat and the other on the passenger side. The guy who was on the driving seat was responsible for ecclerating the engine (Spellings) uptill 100 KM. The other one from the passenger side had opened the gear shifter campartment and had given direct jump with a wire (From The shifting Switch) At once the car after getting the speed of 110 Km went into the fifth gear. So he took one new swith from the market and the problem is solved

The moment the fifth gear started working it gave a new life to the car engine. The downshifting started automatically. So it is proved that when the 5th gear in my car make and model is not working the car starts moving at a snail speed and there is no downshifting of gears also

Hope this might help for those who are moving with this problem

Cheers
