AC Issues W202 '94 C280
As mentioned in another post I have fixed a couple of problems with my AC system with help from the forum. Replaced the cabin air filter and the duovalve so that the air flow is now strong and heat is no longer coming out the side vents. Now the problem is the air flow is still not cold enough. The system uses R-134a and so I thought maybe the charge was just a little low. But when I checked the pressure on the low side port it appears to be too high. The gauge reading was around 65 psi. Also the compressor does not stay on, it cycles on and off every few seconds. Before I take the car to the shop, my question now is what is the likely problem?

Since the compressor is a variable capacity design the clutch should stay engaged almost ALL of the time.. Cycling quickly would be a sign of overheating OR excessive pressures...Are the aux fans running at all?

Thanks MB Doc for the quick reply. Yes, the aux fans come on and seem to run normally. When the compressor does come on the low side pressure drops from approx. 65 psi to 45 psi on my gauge. But since the compressor only stays on for a few seconds at a time the gauge reading goes back up when the compressor disengages. I bought this vehicle just a few months ago before the start of warn weather so I have no history with the AC system. Any thoughts?

OK, I have good AC now. The problem appears to have been two things. First, the prior owner had over charged the system. As suggested, I had it discharged and then charged with the proper amount of R-134a. The other problem was my belt tensioner was shot which caused the belt to slip resulting in the AC compressor clutch kicking out. Went on a trip this weekend and the ACC system now works great.
