Wierd Electrical Stuff Going On...W210 E240
Hi,
Just taken back a very nice E240 that we have had out on Lease and its got some very strange electrical things going on...they must all be connected and there must be a reason for it: They are as follows: 1) Electric Windows will often need the electric window button pushing down twice before the window will move and then it will only move down in 2" drops with repeated pushing of the window button between drops....same on the way up. 2) Electric Sunroof will only move back about 4" before it stops. The tilt mechanism works fine. 3) Indicators; They go Tick, Tick, Tick...Double Tick, Tick, Tick, No Tick, Tick, Tick, Double Tick, etc etc etc. 4) Central Locking is slow to respond, but does work on, surprise surprise the second push of the key fob. 5) Climate Control....function is weak. In all other respects the car starts and drives fine.....WHATS GOING ON???????? As a complete guess is it because the battery is low and there is only just enough juice to run the engine etc and nothing else.....mad I know but I'm clutching at straws. Thanks

Certainly check the battery first, or try a new one.
Two other things could be at fault, K40 which supplies power to N10-1, or N10-1 itself. Hopefully it isn't the latter. |

Matt,
Just to clarify what is N10-1?

OK, just done some checking using the search function....so N10-1 is a control module....where does this and K40 live in a W210?
Many thanks Vlad

N10-1 is the "Combination control module," and it lives with K40 in the module box under the hood; right rear, next to the climate-control air intake.
The only reason that I mentioned N10-1 is that it controls everything that you mentioned, with the exception of the climate-control (mostly, anyway). That exception points to something else, like the battery or K40 relay module. Either or both of those costs a whole lot less than N10-1 (which also must be version-coded). |

Matt,
Had a look in the module box.....quite a lot of stuff in there!.....Clearly the ECU is the biggest thing there ( I assume )....which one is the K40 Relay and which is the N10-1. Luckily I also have another W210 at the moment so I can swap and change parts around once I've identified the parts. Many thanks for your help by the way, its been most appreciated

K40 is at the very front, with a few fuses plugged into its top and a number of smaller (3-6 wire) connectors on top as well.
N10-1 is the largest piece, at the very rear (with the electrical connections on the left side). The IFI control module (engine computer - with the electrical connection on top) is immediately forward of N10-1. Don't swap the engine control module from another car; it won't work. I'm not sure if N10-1 can be swapped. K40 shouldn't be a problem, if the cars are outfitted identically; check the part numbers on the modules. |
