2006 W220 Instrument Cluster Blackout

Was driving a 2006 S500 today when the instrument cluster lights suddenly stopped working. The illumination lights as well as all indicator lights (turn signals, high beam indicator, etc.) would not function. I checked all fuses located in the passenger side of the dashboard, but all were well. All exterior lights continued to function perfectly. Any ideas?

This was a common problem with the 00 and 01 w220s but I thought they had fixed it. Did you check your fuse chart (located in the tool kit in the trunk). I believe that there are 3 fuses for the insturment cluster and I think they are located on the drivers side fuse panel (under the hood).

I could be wrong though - double check the chart/manual.

The chart shows three fuses, but locates them behind a pull out panel on the passenger side of the dashboard. The pull out panel is accessible after opening the passenger side front door.

Starting in '03 the instrument cluster fuses were moved from the L/F fuse box (under the hood), to the cockpit fuse box (right side of dash). If all the fuses are good, and the connectors are properly locked the cluster is shot. I'm not surprised. There's a reason we keep them in stock

Fortunately, this car is still under warranty. For curiosity's sake, what does the cluster cost?

~$1200 - that was the price for the one on our 2000. Sorry about the erronous information - I was only familiar with our model and didn't realize they changed the fuse locations.
