I already post this before but need some extra help ..
I have a 300 D TD 84 and just recently start having problems with back brakes .. Firts i have a light on dash board looks like this (O) ON ( color orange) somebody told me was some sensors so i have all that .. well my most problem is the back brakes are locking ,, il drive for few miles and need to stop to undo the bleed screw so they can unlock .... got me ?? because i didnt have tools and time i took it to a ****ty shop and they change new pads , rotors, calipers etc and the problems keep happening ..(right rear side only ) now they say its the brake line .. My question is . can a leak on the vacum system do this kind of problems ?? i just want to make shure those guys dont take more of my money and time ...u can e mail me at nunirodriguez@yahoo.com or post it here .. thanks ... |

My first guess would be the caliper itself. They replaced all that stuff you mentioned on the rear of the car?

yes . they change Rotors ,Calipers, Pads .. and cars keeps locking on the rear .. Now they say its the brake line .. so thats all i can say for now .. its simple for me but maybe a leak on a vacum line can cause problems but not shure .. thats why i need and expert advise before going tomorrow to the shop .. thanks to all ...

No, the vacuum system won't affect the brakes.
I believe something is heating up the fluid and it then expands and pressure builds up which is locking the brake. Cracking the bleeder relieves the pressure. Do the brakes feel spongy at all? If you look at the calipers the bleeder hole must be towards the top of the caliper, make sure this is correct, if it's wrong it means the calipers were put on backwards. Did they do all this work just to fix this specific problem? Gilly

If they did not replace the rubber sections of brake line when the replaced the calipers it is possible the rubber lines need to be replaced. What happens is the rubber breaks down internally causing a restriction that keeps the caliper under pressure. Often when the rubber lines fail in this fashion they look perfectly normal on the exterior. If the lines are original to the car that are now 22 years old, they deserve to be retired.
BTW, that orange idiot light is for the front brake sensors. Once the light comes on you have about 1000km of brake material remaining. No sensors on the rear.

If the brakes release when you open the bleeder , you have a restricted brake hose feeding that caliper.. very common on old hoses.
