To re-seal the box to the firewall, I used a foam weather strip purchased from Home Depot; it's about 3/4" wide and has self adhesive on one side. Seemed basically similiar to the original seal.

sealing between the firewall and evap/heater box assembly
I use the same stuff Paul made reference to, I get mine at an auto supply store, don't remember the exact size I used. I put the foam stuff on the firewall after I've cleaned off the old material.

I then put 3M Bedding and Glazing Compound part # 08509 on the evap box. You apply it with a caulking gun. Whether it's necessary or not I leave up to you. Since the box was originally sealed with foam and a bedding compound I do it that way. It will help prevent leaks and squeaks.

I used some black home window A/C gasket sealer that doesn't harden, stays pliable like the factory stuff for the HVAC box to firewall.
