Keys for a 1989 300E

I just lost a set of keys for my 1989 mercedes 300E. I have one set left. I wanted to get another set made. Is it possible to get them cut somewhere or do I have to buy a whole new ignition lock cylinder? If I have to buy a new cylinder hoe do I install it?

Thanks Fab

Apply at your local Mercedes dealer.
You need proof of ownership and vin #.
Keys are about $16.00 each.

The keys will be Vin # specific and will fit your locks.

Wait time is 3 to 6 days. Keys are made in Dallas Tx.

Key shops cannot help you.

I went to my local dealer and they said that I would have to show ownership and then I would have to wait about 1 - 2 weeks and they will get a key made from Germany at the cost of $183.71 plus taxes. They also said that they do not cut keys.

Master key = Square black plastic head.
Valet key = Oval black plastic head ( some with red dot.)
Spare key = Half moon steel, with no black plastic head.

I have purchased a blank on ebay...then had my local hardware store cut it..

this is for a 1989 300e.... i splurged on the keyhead... about 13-15 shipped... plus i think 5 dollars to cut it...

the hardware guy was nervous, but it worked.

Cool Spare keys for 1989 300-E

Should not be a problem for any Mercedes-Benz dealer. Just bring in your proof of ownership that should have your vin number and it takes about a week to get brand new factory keys master & valet. all for under $20.00 and a cup of coffee.
I just did this for my wife's 1992 300-E . Call Caliber motors in Anaheim Hills CA and ask for Al in wholesale parts they have the best prices. You can fax the information to them.

Happy motoring

I believe Fieldman Imports, Mpls. charged me $20. I ordered over the phone and next day drove to the big city (with proof of being owner by a MB) and picked up the key. They said it was 1 day air from across the pond.
I would ask this dealer how many keys does he want with 3 day turnaround for $100 and stick it to him!

Thanks for all the help. Just to mention, the dealer also said to me that there should only be 1 key that opens the doors and starts the car. My mercedes has 1 key that opens all the doors and the trunk and another key that starts the car. The dealer said somewhere down the road before I purchased my car the first owner must have replaced the ignition lock cylinder from another mercedes. That is why I have 2 keys for the car. Is this correct and if so I might need to buy a whole new lock cylinder with key.

If you want one key to fit the doors and the ignition then you'll need to buy a new ignition lock cylinder (approx. $65 last time I bought one ... and comes with one key). It's an easy DIY replacement ... once you make the removal wire properly.

Order a cylinder withe cars VIN, that way the door trunk and doors are all the same. I think the key layout was the car key, a valet key, and a wallet key with no head. The valet key would not open trunk, glove box, but would work ignition Some dealers can cut them on the spot others order, them but a cylinder needs to be ordered,

I have great news. My wife found my keys in the parking lot of our local Tim Hortons. There is a God.

Thanks to everyone for helping me with all the suggestions.
