190E 2.6 A/C issues

Hi All

Have an '88 190E 2.6, A/C never worked from the day we got it.

Took it to the mech last summer, he said compressor was seized, and needed to change to R134 (he doesn't have R12, which is pretty hard to get in Canada) and no major leaks on the system.

So, THIS year, I got a 2.6 compressor that has been sitting around a few years from a member on another forum. I finally have time to do stuff, so what do I need to do?

1. Should I just go ahead and replace the compressor and fittings with R134 fittings, and have the mech flush and fill?

2. Should I do some debugging to see what else could be wrong (relays, etc.)

3. Should I test the new (used) compressor first, considering it's been sitting around. How would I test it?
