Fuel System Cleaner

Thinking of pouring in a bottle of STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner into a full tank of gas and drive it around until tank isready for another fill-up before I do my oil change on my 1990 190E 2.6.

How does M-B react to these fuel additives? Do you M-B techies recommend adding fuel system cleaners or gas treatment to M-B? Thanks.

Do you want my advice? Put 5 naphthalene balls in a full tank and drive, then when you use all of it, reput another 5 balls, then the same another 5 balls. Afther that you will get the cleanest paths. I tried it myself on all of the cars mentions on my signature.

I think Mr. dmorrison means Chevron Techron. http://www.chevron.com/products/prodserv/fuels/additives/concentrate_plus.shtml

Nearly everyone here can give testimonials to the benefits of using cleaners like Techron regularly. They include smoother idle, reduced pinging, better economy and more power. Some have even gotten emissions reduced after an "Italian tuneup" with a bottle of the stuff. I put a bottle of gumout in my Jeep, and got 17.5MPG on my most recent all-highway tankful - an increase of over 2MPG highway!.

It won't hurt anything, and will probably help a lot - cleans your valves, your injectors, and more. Report back with your results!

This is what MB says about fuel additives:

`...The only fuel additives recommended are detergents and other additives blended with gasoline during the refining process...
The only exception to the "no additive" rule is Mercedes Benz's own additive, (part number A 000 989 25 45 10) Follow the specific directions to remove internal carbon deposites up on valves because a high quality gasoline without detergents wasn't regularly used...`

Also I have read additionally from another source, to aassure quality gas use brand name stations that do a brisk business, don't by gas while a tanker is at the station filling the tanks because it churns up debris in the tanks

frosty, get yourself a can of the BG cleaner. The local Benz dealers in my area carry that product line and it's potent.

About BG products, from tech section, one reason you see shops push BG products, is that BG has a redeem program to tech who sell quantities of their products, gifts and any number of rebates to those who move ever increasing amounts of the goods.

fuel additives

Try some soy milk or oatmeal. or just throw your cash out a window. None of this stuff works.

The only non snake oil of the bunch is Chevron Techron which is a component of the additive package in fuel sold at Chevron stations. You can get a bottle of Techron at the McParts store, or just fill up with Chevron gas.

Does your car have over 100k miles on it?
Is it more than 8 years old?

If the answer to either of these is "Yes" and you've never even TRIED a bottle of Techron or similar products... I would hate to see your intake valves!

My intake valves have an unlisted number and don't date anyone who drives an old car.
