Glad to hear it is fixed.
You can thank " Gilly " for it.

P.S. Gilly.............remember a pad on the back is only 6" higher than a kick in the ass.

OH, OK, found the previous thread. Glad it's fixed, but I was talking about the metal part the rotor (the part I think you called a "button") mounts to, it's the part that attaches to the camshaft. I've seen those break, yet sometimes they'll spin with the cam and sometimes even let the engine run! Weird.

eating crow

Well it was short lived about 6 miles maybe not that long.SOB was running all right at first got to normal running temp on warning not even a sputter!let is set for about 30 min (it stoped in front of a bar THERE IS A GOD)had a beer said a couple cuss words went out & it started long enought to get to the other side of road & that is were it stayed untill the same tow truck same driver from Monday came & got it.He felt sorry for me & charged 10 dollars less when we got back to the garage but I could not get a cab so guess what I gave the driver back the 10 dollars & he droped me off at my favorite watering hole.Did I mention I could have got it out of the shop yesterday went to start it & the rebuilt starter I got out of Ca.shorted itself out & I had to have him get one overnight & install it $311.00 that was#2 check starter labor.#1 check $189.00 distributor cap, rotor, labor. Two tow truck bills total $90.00. grand total with him $590.00 I think I spent $540.00 on it myself at the house.Gilly it's got to be what your talking about Scott

If you replaced the rotor, then I doubt highly it's the rotor bracket. If it's the rotor bracket, when you took the cap off it probably would have fell into your hands. The rotor mounts to the bracket with 3 small machine screws. The part I'm talking about is the part those 3 screws screw in to. If that part was not broken, then that wasn't it. Was a long shot anyways.

Yeah that's sensor with an "S". Hmmm, used by the ignition control unit to control spark, it's not a distributorless system as you know, but can have similar effects. Would be affected by heat, can't remember if the original post you had mentioned heat related problem or not (usually you are better off continuing your original thread). The older sensors have really long life, pretty dependable. If that's what the guys says it is, sure I'd go along with it, I have no reason to doubt that it could be that part, but I didn't diagnose it...
