Smile Air only without A/C, is it possible??

I was wondering if it is possible just to run the air without running the airconditioner on 1997 E420?? Or does it have to be only Air and airconditioner altogether at any time?? Does it also mean that when you run the heater it is actualy running the hot air and the airconditioner at the same time?
Appreciate any inputs

Run it in ECON mode

Your climate control has an ECONomy mode button. I believe on an E420 it is located just below the display and says "EC". It should light up a red LED when you press it, to let you know the system is in economy mode.

The system runs exactly the same as in Auto mode, but the A/C compressor never kicks in. Watch for fogging up windows and if they occur, put the system back into Auto mode for a few minutes. I tend to do this in really rainy weather, as the windows fog up too fast in Economy if it is humid out.

Heater

Also, the A/C compressor never runs when the heater is running in Auto mode. It's just blowing out heat.

However, if you put the system into DEFROST mode, it will run the A/C a bit to help clear the windows. This is very helpful... look at some of the older Japanese cars in the winter and you'll see the windows all fogged up!

Smile

Thanks Neal,

I will try again tonight. I wasn't sure what the EC button does before since the car did not come with all the manuals needed.

Thank you

Frank

Not correct. The AC compressor never runs if it is below 3C outside, and it should cut out if the evaporator falls below 5C. If you're using heat and the temperature is above 5C, the compressor will likely run a fair bit. But since the head pressure is so low at these temperatures, the compressor doesn't take much power from the engine.

If you want it off, you have to hit the "EC" button.

Thanks to all,

With "EC" button on it's only air flowing, aircond not working. So this helps save some gas.
Anybody knows how to change the 2 filter and the charcoal filters? I heard they are very very expensive??
