Bosch non-resistor plugs
I got this from ******** arizona today..
any thoughts on their response? Lee, Sorry, the rumors are true. In the last 12-18 months, Bosch has discontinued the production of non-resistor type plugs for a variety of applications, including your's. Bosch's reason for doing so is because the average resistor plug contains 100-200 Ohms of resistance while the average wire set contains 5000. Bosch's contention is that the resistance in the plugs is so minimal compared to what is in the wires anyway, it won't make a difference unless the ignition system is having other problems. As long as your ignition system is working properly, Bosch believes everything should work fine. I have even heard from some local mechanics that other plug manufacturers such as Champion and NGK are following suite and discontinuing the non-resistor plugs. Unfortunately, there isn't anything that we can do about this issue anyway because H9DC, non-resistor plugs have not been produced by Bosch in at least a year. NOT to start a spark plug controversy but I had a problem getting copper non resistor Bosch plugs the last time I changed mine. I ended up buying NGKs. They work just fine.

Non R are copper core, so I wonder if the crazy jump in copper has attributed to them doing manufacturing changes........

must be .02 in copper... i checked my stockpile... i have 6 copper core n/r. i will put them in the CE in the spring.. my son's 300e should be good to go for at least another 2 years...he can't afford the gas to drive much more than that to put on mileage... here's a real question... how long do the plugs last..? i would hope 30-40k.

I usually start to see electrode degradation around 10-15K..which for most isn't much of a concern.. For some cars leaving the plugs in for 20-25K isn't an issue.
On my personal cars and for the clients of mine that are as picky as I am I like to drop in fresh plugs about the 10-15K mark..nice crisp edges on the electrode etc, etc.. I'm working on getting a Reliable source for the Beru copper core plugs...hopefully that will come through sooner rather then later. As an aside, I did just pick up 2 sets of Beru copper core X (4 electrode plugs) for my 560's...hope to try a set sometime soon..I'll report what I find after I get some miles racked up Jonathan

Lee - It's been awhile since I saw the thread, but some time ago MBDOC said the Bosch plugs lasted 45K in 103 motors. He must have seen a lot of 103 motors that don't have the valve stem seal/valve guide oil consumption issue. If that's going on, I don't see how the car would drive well on the same set of plugs for 45K. I usually change mine every 15K - 20K just for general principle. Plugs are never black-oil-sooted, but there is some brown-gray like build up on them. Car usually runs a little better for me after a plug change.
