The only other thing that comes to mind is maybe the switch for the domelights is broken, this would keep the cluster from activating, which will make the problem you are describing, the dome light itself can be shut off, sometimes people don't realize the domelight doesn't work. Is this possibly the situation? The switch is on the back of the door opening below the catch on the body side.

r, one thing to remember in the future, is even though it's the fancier display, I think the door STILL has to be closed. Next time, if you think of it, you might want to try it with the door open and see if it'll reset that way or not.

The door was open
I deliberatly left the door open. The procedure said nothing about the door and I was curious also.
