Maybe a stupid spark plug question

Alright the firing order is printed right on my valve cover. The problem is I don't know which cylinder is which.. Are the numbered front to rear, left then right or alternating right and left from rear to front...... I have no clue and I can't find a picture anywhere with the numbers just added on. Anyone have something like that? or a clear easy to understant description of which cylinder is which?

Thanks,

Mark

ON all MB "V" motors the RIGHT front cylinder is #1 & all of the right side is numbered 1-3(V6), 1-4(V8), & 1-6(V12). #5 is the front cylinder on the LEFT(drivers side in the US)
