Oil Pressure reading-96 SL500

My oil pressure pegs at 30 at any RPM more than 1500 RPM. I was told that I might have a bad oil pressure sensor but the oil pressure is probably OK.

Is this normal?

Any comments?

Don't know about your 500, but all mine with oil pressure gages go to 3 bar by 1500 Rs.
I believe it is quite normal. Or 4 of my cars have problems.

If you haven't been a long-standing owner of a variety of MBs, you probably don't know that the oil pressure gauges on these cars are dynamic...they actually TELL you something!

A lot of other vehicles have electric gauges that just move the needle to some stasis point when you start the car, and remain there unless there is a problem.

I have an Auto Meter mechanical gauge in my VW and it fluctuates (slowly) with rpm and such, including reading high upon startup, when the oil is thickest. I marvel at MB's system reporting the slightest nuances in oil pressure changes...unconventional for electrical gauges...

My '92 500 SL pegs the oil pressure gauge at 3 bar at anything over 1500 rpm. I would say your car is quite normal.

oil pressure

My 99 SL does not have an oil pressure gage it does have a oil temperature gage, and a low oil level warning light, try to figure oil pressure with that.
