new TD issues
I bought an 84 300TD today. I was driving home and noticed a lort of things wrong. I did not pay much so I was not picky but I would like to get things working right.
1. speedo not working. I took off the dash and the cable is pulled out of the end that screws on. ( I followed the correct procedurte but it was already broke) Is there a way to get the cable back into the ferrule and recrimp it? Something that fits well to expand the crimp? 2. no cruise, I assume the speedo is part of this problem. 3. puddle of oil on driver floor. I am guessing the oil sender line. Is the sender itself prone to leak or just the joint? 4. sunroof does not work. 5. driver side hinge bushing on the body in the trough is gone. Are these available somehwere? Thanx |

Buy a new speedo cable (and housing!). The only reasons for it to be unscrewed are that someone wanted to not record milage or it was bad and causing the speedo to jump and rattle.
The line is usually the culprit, but I suppose the gauge itself could be leaking. Should be obvious when you pull the cluster to fix the speedo cable. The speed sensor for the CC is in the speedo head, cannot work with cable unhooked. Sunroof can be a number of things -- try to open it (carefully, please) with the emergency crank nut in the trunk. Likely it won't move much because the slides are broken (no lift on that one, I don't think), causing the translation bridge to get sideways. You may have to remove the headliner on the sunroof to find out what's going on, and I don't know how that one is attached (the W124 is clipped to the front edge of the roof panel). Peter

thanx for the reply. here's what I found so far speedo cable. I put a phillips screw driver in the cable end and flattened out the 2 sharp dimples inside left by the crimper. Then I was able to push the end on and crush it a little with vise grips. I unhooked the cable from the cable retainer on the side of the block to give enough room to get it screwed on to the cluster from the top. it work now and I just zip tied the cable back to the engine clamp the oil pressure gage line was seeping. I had to tighten it way more than I would have done but it finally stopped leaking. All of the sound deadener, the carpet and sound deadener on the floor is ruined. Is there a source for this? CC still does not work. I will try to find troubleshooter steps for this to diagnose it. I work for an electronics company so I will most likely have someone at work re-solder the amplifier. the sunroof nut is pretty tight. I want to drive it this week so I didnt force anything. The ac works fine so it is not top priority the power antenna was also not working. I took it apart and the little toothed belt is snapped. I ordered a replacement since the moter works and the gears and mass seem to move free I will keep this current as things are solved. Please post a good trouble shooter site for the CC. I also need more info on the lock system as it seems to be disconnected under the hood. thanx again |
