5 years and getting worse.

I have a 190 2.5-16 auto with a problem i cant get to the bottom of so you guys are my last resort.
My car drives beautifully when im driving normally, with tons of power. she accelerate very swiftly and smoothly however my problems begin when i drive it hard. When i kick down to overtake it changes down and then starts surging very aggressivley if i release the throttle and then stamp on it again 7 out of 10 times it will just pull away as it should and other times it continues to surge.
I hardly ever have this problem from a standing start, if i floor it from stationary she starts in first and pulls like a train right through the gears. It mostly occurs when i either kickdown or if i manually select a lower gear.
Its hard to explain the surging i get in text but its like i am hitting the throttle and then releasing it, on and off slightly quicker than once a second continuously.
Most of the time i can stop it by easing off the throttle and then reapplying it.
I have had this problem for 5 years now and it has been very slowly getting worse.
I have rebuilt the top end, had the gearbox overhauled. replaced fuel pumps, filter, all vacuum hoses and injectors, i have replaced the fuel pump relay ond ovp.
I have spent fortunes on this motor but my love for it is wearing thin, if only i could fix whats wrong with it.
So if anyone has had a similar probem or could shed any light whatsover it would be greatly appreciate,. even if it seems obvious, please tell me your thoughts.
Thanks and sorry for the long post.
Dave

Hi, Thanks, Do you think its a gearbox problem then?
I had the box overhauled but it made no difference. I was thinking that it was engine related.

If it were engine related, it'd do it off a dead start and not just an agressive accelleration.
