Question Rolling in the Chain- question?

Pardon me for reviving the subject but I am about to roll in a new timing-chain into my 300E and cannot decide how to connect the old chain to the new one except to use the new crimp style connector supplied with the new chain (ie. without the copper colored plate) and hope that it does not fall off during process. Can someone assure me that it will not fall off or alternatively tell me how to find a temporary clip type connector for use during the rolling-in process. Help!

I've had success pushing in the link and not peening the pins to roll in a new chain. It takes a bit of effort to get the link on and pull it off after. I replaced M103 and OM603 chains that way. Probably take a good deal of driving before the pin pair backed out.

Thank you sixto. I am a little worried that removal of the link after rolling the chain will be difficult and that I might even damage the retainer when prying it off the pins, but I am encouraged that it can be done. Help me keep my fingers crossed. Here I go.
