Thumbs up M116, T-chain slop and block ID?

First, where on the block is the number stamped so I know what the serial number of it is?

Next up, on my 380... pulled both valve covers and to my relief! upper guides are not broken (and nothing has jumped) but the chain has an awful lot of slop Do these tensioners rely on oil pressure or the internal spring? Could I have a lower guide issue?

chain slop may be caused by stretch.line up the timing marks on the cams and see where the crankshaft is.anymore than 6-7% is undesireable.the tensioner in the 380 is spring and oil.the # is stamped at the bellhousing to the left of centre.

The engine number is awkward to get to. You have to lie on the air cleaner and peer down to a horizontal surface behind the driver side head.

Thumbs up

LOL, well it has a 5.0 in there.

M117.963 - 12 - 028009

Now the deciding factor, is this a Euro or US. It has true duals on it if that makes a difference, but could have been installed at a later date.

Weelll, the M117.963 was in '84 and '85 500SEL and 500SEC (s) My GUESS would be is that is not Euro. Euro or not, the timing chain should be the same. The timing chain, guides and tensioner I installed in my M117.962 Euro were all the same parts that fit the 500 SEL, so I was told. The tensioner on these is also spring and oil
