My passenger side, split-bench (not the "rumble/ 3rd") seat will not unlock so that I can fold it down. The driver's side folds fine. Specifically, the back rest will not unlock, even after I have already folded up the botton of the seat. The other side works fine.

Any help?

Did you have that rear door open when you were trying? There's an interlock plunger with a white head that's visible when you open the door; it keeps the seatback from ever going forward with the door shut. If the door was open, perhaps this interlock is sticking? I suggest that you open both rear doors and compare the positions of these interlocks-I bet that's your problem.

Good luck!

The door lock is also my point. Perhaps it is stuck and not releasing. Ed

My 87 wagon had the same problem. It turned out to be the interlock system needed lubrication. It was just plain stuck from lack of use. If I remember correctly, I took out the seat bottom, then worked the interlock from top and bottom by hand. There is a small lever that lifts up when the seat bottom is lifted. That part was stuck. A little WD-40, and presto. I'll look at it in the morning to be sure that I'm remembering all the details.

300TE split bench challenge

Michael, Steve, Ed,

Thanks for the help guys. I just worked the little plunger at the door and the lever at the base of the back rest as all of you suggested. Works like a champ again. If anyone comes to the SF Bay Area, let me know and lunch is on me. Have a great weekend.
