Which years of 300TE have Self Levelling Rear Suspension ??
Currently have an 88 300E and am pondering the pursuit of a non-4MaticTE,
but the Self Leveling rear suspension does not appeal. Are there any years that it is an option or not equipped on the TE ? Any comments / advice would be appreciated....George |

In the US, all. I expect the same in Canada. I don't know about Euro models.

Self-Leveling rear suspension was standard fitment on the 124 wagons just as was the case with the 123 wagons that came before them. The SLS is what gives the wagons their load-carrying capability. Having owned our 124 wagon ('90 300TE) for over 8 years and a 123 wagon ('80 300TD) for almost 5 years before that, I can say that I would not want a wagon without SLS. It is not as troublesome as some would have you believe and not difficult to repair on the odd occasion it fails. During 13 years of MB wagon ownership, SLS repairs for me have amounted to a pair of air cells on the 123 and a pair of air cells and a hydraulic hose on the 124. Not a big outlay for a system that combines superb ride and road-holding with great load-carrying and towing capability.

Not personal, but it seems a frequently occurring "knee-jerk" reaction to doubt this system. I postulate it's being confused with the Boge Nivomat system on 700 Volvos and possibly same on Range Rovers, which do require replacement about as often as a normal shock absorber. Very few second-owner Volvo wagons get new $700 shocks. Boge Nivomats have mostly disappeared from the scene as well. The Mercedes system is nothing like the Volvo system.
