Replaced OVP - Couple Suprises
Due to occassional stall at idle and on deacceleration, my mechanic pulled the OVP today and by comparison to other OVP information on the forum I found the following -
The unit was shrouded in a removable black plastic sleeve, The unit is alloy and has a red top but has TWO 10amp fuses. The unit has TWO 30a poles. The unit was manufactured in "Hungary" part number 89 7236 000 It tested fine electonically, however, there is corrossion on the 87L pole (which incidentally powers the ICV), and rattled real bad. The replacement aftermarket unit is identical and has the same part number, however, the box shows part 201 540 37 45, cost AUD$149 approx US$105. The supplier advised that this Hungarian unit had replaced both the original Siemens 000 540 52 45, and it's replacement 000 540 67 45, and claims he sells heaps for W124, 126, 201 and 202. Ive mentioned this in a previous post, but rattling does NOT indicate by itself a problem. There is a piece of phenolic insulation between the bottom of the PCB in the unit and the metal case of the relay that is not glued in; it rattles.

OVP? From my experience, just replace the OVP and you should be fine. I had three OVP replaced. Twice on my W124 300e and once on my W124 E420. Seems like this part last up to and around every 100K. Not bad for such a cheap but important part. The actual fuel pump relay almost never need replacing. Had the 300E for 20yrs with original fuel pump relay, on the E420 I just recently replaced the OVP at 82k.

Interesting that the OVR is good for about 100K
My car has almost 200K I just replaced what looks to be the orig mercedes OVR made in W Germany The replacement was made in Hungary supposed brand KAEHLER but there is not name on the unit itself There is a intermittent rattle in the old relay could be near the bottom but if its got that much mileage on it I think it was a good idea to replace it. Replaced it last night Started the car to ceck that as I also changed ceramic fuses & didn't really see a diffeeence but since the ovr is prob past its serviceable life I feel better spending the $ on it which was $52 US
