The engine number and vin number are two diffrent things. The Vin number is the Vehicle Id and the Engine Number is what exact engine that Vehicle came with. The Engine number is located on the engine I think on the lower left part on the block on a ID plate. Your engine will begin with 119 970 12 the last six is the most important part. If you give me your Vin Number I usually can pull up what Engine number was originally put in that car off the Parts CD.

Another idea...

You can stop at your local MB dealership and have them do a printout of your vehicle from the Vehicle Master Inquiry System (VMI). This printout will give you everything including your engine # (assuming it had not been replaced.

The last six digits of your engine are 026967.

OK Goldenbear, how did you find that out? Did he give you his VIN? Just curious.

Willy,

Actually, I have several MB related sites that house that type of information. However, I obtained the number today from MercedesShop FastLane's online catalogue.

Great, but I thought that the complete engine number was similar to a VIN in that it is UNIQUE to each vehicle. If so, how could you find that info?

My 94 E420 has a a 119.975 engine. My engine number is 11997512013449. Are you saying that others might have the same number?

Also, if you could, I would appreciate if you could post those links you mentioned earlier.

Thanks!!!!!!

Willy
