There is a hole on the arm on the neutral safety switch that has to fit into the shifter arm on the trans. Yours is obviously misaligned. It's easy to do because it's dark under there and the little arm cannot be seen.
Put the shifter in '2', get under the car again, remove the shifter arm on the trans and make sure the little arm on the NSS is forward. Make sure the pin fits in the hole and put the clamping bolt back on. See the hole in the shifter arm: ![]()

warren is right.that is what activates the reversing lights.set up the switch correctly and all will work.
