I have been looking at all of the post here on the tech forum. There seem to be quite a few members with 300E's or W124's. How about a general discussion forum for that model..Your thoughts on this topic.

300E forum

Jeff,
That sounds like a great idea. It seems like a majority of us own the earlier models at that. They also seem to have a big history (good and bad). That way, instead of taking up space in the tech forum, those of us can go directly to that forum. I don't know, does this make us W124 owner's to think we are special or just have a majority of the problems?

Rich, thanks for your thoughts. I really expected a better response form all those 300E jockeys out there..

Richie:
I don't think we have a majority of the problems, just a majority of the cars. The w124 was one of the most popular chassis MB had built - over 100,000 sold. They are also 6-16 years old, so a pretty good likelyhood that any MB problems are going to be in this model.

Jeffsr:
I wouldn't mind a seperate forum in many ways, but I would still come to the tech forum - there is just too much cross application between the different models to miss out on something by staying in just a 300E forum. It also might make it harder on the contributing techs like Steve, Benzmac, etc. to have to jump forums and maybe answer the same problem in 2 places for multiple chassis.

Your timing in bringing this up is really good. I had been thinking that maybe the "cars" tab could use a more elaborate sub section under the 300/400/500 E class. The info there is a great introduction, but maybe some sub sections - drawings or photos of the engine compartment with labels for all the parts that we talk about (OVP, ECU, Klima relay, Bowden cable, etc.). A section summarizing some of the more commonly discussed problems and answers. A section for what to look for, strengths, weaknesses, etc, when buying one of these models, that sort of thing.

I have already started reviewing the archives for posts on what to look for when buying (best year, parts uprades like the early 400E brakes, common failures, needed upgrades like larger tires and wheels on 400Es), that sort of thing. I was going to see if Bill Wood could use this as a DIY or supplemental article, but maybe it would fit in with this. Does this approach seem useful at all, or were you thinking of a general forum approach for anything related to 300Es (tires, performance, tech problems, etc.)?

Great John, Just looking for opinions re the idea. It was a thought, but it may not have been a practical thought. I don't know how it would dovetail into the current structure of the board, but there are separate sections for Gwagen, etc. The tech stuff would still get where it belongs. maybe just looking for a place that has a common denominator fro the 300E crowd..

Yes for 300E Forum...

I believe in Majority rules...Lets start a 300E forum !! Our cars were most produced Benz in history. I think it would be great to have our own forum (nothing against tech, because we cant live without it, LOL) Thats my 2 cents, dont know how to go about it, though

I say no to the forum. I own a W124, and I suppose it could be nice to have a W124 specific forum. However, we already have quite a large number of forums to read. What could we possibly need a forum specific to W124s for? It is not difficult to find information using the search feature, and most every W124 problem can be posted in the Tech Help forum.

Although I am a fellow 300(C)E owner, I can only say: NO!

Mercedesshop already started a separate SL-forum and G wagen-forum. If model splices the forum, one will miss a lot of (useful) information and discussions/replying threads will be slow.
There are several MB forums that have model related sections...These forums are not as good as this one and won't even get close! They have little traffic and are to be considered slow.

Don't split up the forum into model related sections; you will miss a lot! How about the 300SL/300SE/300GE threads, you will not read because you stick to the W124 section?

...just my opinion...greetingz,

Additionally, if we create another forum it will take more time to read all of the new posts. That may not be an issue for the users here in the U.S., but in many European countries it is quite expensive to use the internet. Since we have numerous international members I think it would polite to refrain from forcing them to spend more time online.

I'd say no also because like Steve pointed out, that if you are having a problem with your M103 engine in your 124, it is probably not only with the 124, but with all of the 300 engines within that time. I hope I made that clear.

Some of us with 300Es also own other MB models...personally, I like to be able to ask (and solve) problems on any model without having to jump around to different forums. Plus, I can also get a good idea of what to expect when looking at a prospective non-300E MB purchase (new or old). Some topics that come up affect many models (i.e. synthetic oils). I say we keep the forum as is. I'll use the search engine if I want to see specific 300E topics.

What do you mean "problems with the W124?" Who has problems? These cars don't break. Just ask me I'll tell you.
