My 1987 400SEL driver's seat springs and cushion needs replacement. I know where I can buy the parts. I can't seem to find any documentation on how this is actually accomplished. Is this a 'mechanic' only scenario or can some one with a little common sense, good directions, and tools figure out.

Check out the article at this link:

http://hsb.baylor.edu/html/easley/autofaqs/seats.htm

The example is a W123, but much of it applies directly to other chassis', including W201, W124, and W126.

seat springs and pad

I have had both bottom seat springs replaced on my 123 turbo diesel and my 300sdl. My local upholstry shop did the work , cost about $60 for labor for each.

The springs can only be purchased at a mercedes dealer (ouch). Best money I ever spent, both cars ride like new.

Springs

I purchased a seat spring from Performance. It took 2 hours to install the driver's side. Only problem was dropping the seat on my foot. The seat is heavier than you'd expect and a bit awkward in shape.

$151 for a W126 seat spring frame? I paid $109, from the benzbin for my car. Are the seat spring frames larger, or maybe they have raised their prices.

springs

Bottom springs for my seat was cheaper at the dealer than thebenzbin. Go figure. For dealer only parts, Stahl Motor Co. in Monterey Ca, seems pretty hard to beat. I was shocked that benzbin wanted more for them, always thought they had pretty good prices.

Guess it pays to check around a little bit

Performance Products Web address is http://www.************************.

They list the bottom spring frame for my 300TD at $111.71.
They're located in Los Angeles.

What's wrong with purchasing stuff

from Partsshop.com or Fastlane.com ya'll? We should be supporting this site as much as we can through doing business with them and not advertising for other vendors. I know that over the past year or so I have saved mucho $$$$$ by the tips and advise from the people that take the time and make the effort that we get answers that are as accurate as possible without actually being there.
I try to bring my business here and the price has never been beaten.

Seat springs

Does FastLane or Partshop carry seat springs? I could not find them. I like this forum alot and the information I receive is awesome, I was told that the springs are a dealer only part.

If you search ebay for mercedes seat, or item #582527784, you will find a 300E seat frame and pads ending this weekend, 4/29, currently with no bids on it. Just thought you guys would be interested, it's not mine.
