Lever for AC/Heater fan speed stuck
On our 1993 190E the slide lever that controls the fan speed is stuck. It is in the "off" position and feels locked in place.
Any ideas as to what might cause the lever to lock up? Many thanks.

There are three plastic paddle shapped dealies, and the first one breaks off. Hard to explain until you open one up. Can't really fix it... just replace the whole unit. Find one on ebay or a junkyard. I got one from a junkyard, and it was broken the same way mine was. So I just opened both of them up and swapped parts until I had a good one.

Ok Dan... thanks.
Do I begin by taking off the dash cover plate in front of the slider switch?

I took off the wood grain cover but I can't figure out how the temperature control assembly unit is removed.
I did find two metal ribbon line strips made of spring steel that will slide out the top of the assembly. I am hesitant to completely remove them because I'm not sure of their function. Should they be removed or not? Any help will be greatly appriciated. I did remove the two screws from the bracket that holds the fan slider assebly but that small unit is located behind the larger temp control unit. I need to remove the larger unit so that the smaller unit can then be removed. How is the larger unit removed?
