mercedes benze 190E 1991 model
Hi My car has developed a problem over the last 3 years Can anyone help? Make mercedes 190E 1991 model Mileage 89.000 The pattern
· Three different Mercedes garages have investigated with no positive answer to the problem. I love this car can anyone out there help? Asp The car runs well on normal roads, the problem starts when I climb hills and not very steep hills. It then looses speed and power dramatically. According to mechanic and quote “not enough petrol is delivered through the fuel head due the piston not operating properly” Siorapwil ![]() |

May be a plugged catalytic convert or pre-cats. Try loosening up the front exhaust pipe (JUST to test it, don't leave it this way, it will be very loud and you can get CO into the cabin, so leave your windows down when doing this test) and road test to see if performance returns. 2.3's are known for plugging the pre-cats especially, and this CAN lead to serious engine damage if left indefinitely.
In regards to the fuel system situation has anyone checked the fuel ratio either by on-off ratio or with an exhaust gas analyzer to see if you are running too lean? Gilly

Oh, PS if it was a problem with ONE piston in the fuel distributor, you would have a miss on one cylinder, would run rough due to one cylinder not getting enough fuel. If it runs smoothly, just a general lack of power, I would discount the diagnosis of a problem with one piston in the distributor.

I think he means the part under the distributor/air horn assembly where it connects to the intake manifoild proper.

Hi
The problem has been found and solved by a Fred Smalley. It was a worn camshaft. the car is now brilliant apart from my (new post problem) Thanks to all who took part in solving my problem. Siorapwil |
