Torque Converter
'92 300SE - 5speed automatic.
Does this tranny have a lockup torque converter. I've not been able to find any specs as to whether it does or not. Thanks in advance for the replies. Regards |

722.5 transmissions do not have a clutch in the torque converter, no lockup.Frist thru fourth gear shifts is hydraulic, 5th gear is controlled by an electronic controller, with inputs from the EZL and other sensors.
The 722.6 transmission is the First fully electronic control transmission with a lockup torque converter for MB. |

Thanks so much! I just recently had the transmission out to replace the rear main seal. I did also replace the front & rear seals on the tranny, plus do a filter change. I noticed that the transmission protector switch is leaking slightly around the switch.
When I put everything back together and properly filled the transmission and did a test drive, I noticed for the first time that there didn't seem to be a full lockup occurring with the car in higher gears (4th, 5th). When I apply throttle on the freeway, I do see a climb in RPM's that's not linear with speed increase. It's not a slip - I know what that feels like - just a 150-200rpm climb like one would get with a non-lockup converter. I was afraid I'd done something to upset the transmission. I tried pulling codes from the transmission control module, but it returns #1 (no codes). Regards |
