230e fun

Sure am having fun with this 1980 230e w/auto I just got off eBay. The previous threads are right, watch the blank looks you get at the parts counter, even for an oil filter! I'm going to dig around ebay for a parts CD on this thing and a shop manual in English. Any pointers from the old pros on here would be highly appreciated.

One thing I am curious about is if this car has a three or a four sp. automatic. I only feel two shifts. Everything seems to operate correctly. Just seems like a lot of revs at 70 mph.

it should be a four speed, but may start in second unless you floor the gas pedal.

is it the one cam 230 motor? sitting vertical or slanted a bit?

it is, i would think, the four cylinder version of the 250 six. and many parts from the 250 i would think will fit. others such as the air filter might be same as a 240d. most parts you will need, i would think will be readily available, you will just have to learn how to ask for them.

any 23o only parts you should be able to get through your favorite mb parts specialist or the dealer by giving the part number.

that is how it is with my 280e euro.

good luck.

Thanks Tom!

This engine is the single cam upright version. And you're right, just ask for part number from what ever I take off the car. That'll work.

In re the trans, I think I'll try to count the downshifts as I come to a stop. It does that very well.
