420SEL Window Problem

Greetings,
The driver's side front window on our '89 420SEL no longer moves up or down when we activate the window button. We can hear the window motor working, but the window does not move. This began after we heard a clunk sound from inside the door panel.
I am trying to make an assessment as to whether I should delve into this problem myself or just take it to our mechanic. Any ideas on the causes of a problem such as this?
Could someone also give me a condensed version of the sequence of steps and any specialized tools necessary to get into the inner workings of the window mechanism?

Thanks,

Dan Boyce

Sounds like the sliding jaw broke on the regulator or another part of the regulator broke.

The sliding jaw requires peening the new jaw on to the regulator with a ball peen hammer after removal of the regulator.

If you never had done this before, you may want to take it to your guy because the frustration of the repair itself may lead to you hitting other parts of the car with that hammer.
