IF it's an actual MB 'branded' oil, it would either be manufactured by Pentosin or Febi-Bilstein. Those are the only two companies who make oil for MB.

M1 5W40 for Bluetec?

<>

Well, it wasn't. MB switched to M1 5W40 Extended Performance (long before Bluetec showed up) when they abandoned FSS (05/06?) and went to 13K mile oil change intervals using a fleece filter.

M1 0W40 has been factory fill since 2001 and the switch to 5W40 was last year (I think). As for me, I've used M1 15/50 since 1988 and now it's 0W40 in both my cars.

Maybe they got sick and tired of the questions about zero weight (ooo, isn't that too thin?). I know I have.

You are right, that 0W40 was a stupid idea on mercedes part, and there's a reason why so many people saw zero and went, ain't that to thin? personally i don't know any fellow mercedes owners using 0W40 in my region, being honest.

U are right, that 0

There are a number of 0w40/0w30 oils approved by MB and according to the lab results all provide excellent service.

I don't speculate lab results are the only thing that holds any water, everything else can just be ignored.

Jeez,......are we EVER going to get this straight?
A 0- W oil is NOT a "0" oil, it FLOWS ( in cold temperatures ) LIKE a " 0 " viscosity oil.
Considering that most enginewear occurs at start-up, instant lubrication to all vital engine components is just fine with me.
That's why I'll continue to use 0W40, as recommended by M-B.

Engine oil

Does anyone know or think that Castrol Syntec, 5W50 would be a bad choice of oil for a new '07, E550?

Are you concerned about maintaining your engine warranty?

0W40/a good idea

>>You are right, that 0W40 was a stupid idea on mercedes part, and there's a reason why so many people saw zero and went, ain't that to thin? personally i don't know any fellow mercedes owners using 0W40 in my region, being honest.>>

I did not say that 0W40 was a stupid idea. It is in fact a great idea. But, mere ownership of a Mercedes does not impart any technical knowledge and a lot of these posts prove it. As to who is using it, any post-98 MB serviced by a dealer was getting M1 0W40 (until M1 5W40 became the recommended oil) unless the dealer is ignoring MB factory recommendations. As for me, I have been using M1 in my Porsche since 1988, 15/50 then and 0W40 now. Porsche recommends M1 0W40 in all of their cars back to 1973 1/2.

So whatever your MB may be, if you think it has lubrication requirements beyond, as one shining example, the $440,000 Porsche Carrera GT with a 605HP V-10 and a top speed of 205mph whose factory fill is, guess what, Mobil 1 0W40 then you are flat wrong. The one and only valid objection to M1 is it's price.

For those whose cars warrant it, buying oil at the local 7-11 and changing every 3K miles will probably be fine.

If it's on MB's list of approved oils (that means tested by MB at Castrol's expense) then it probably won't be an issue in case of an engine warranty claim.

Why would you state something for discussion, ask questions, and answer it like a smart ass later on?

Then you tell all of us basically, that just cuz we own a mercedes doesn't mean we know S***? you might as well keep your car dealer serviced and avoid these forums.

when i bought my 1995 E420 with 66000 mi, 10/40 dino had been used since new and dealer serviced. I changed to Mo One 10/40, changed every 5k. Has 106,000 mi now, better mpg, no leaks and does not use oil between changes. Just bought 03 Cl500, 19k. May try new 05/40 this summer just for grins, but for now can't complain. LOVE the CL.

OK, this latest oil from MBz is going to be available at the retail level:

http://store.avlube.com/mo1espfom5wc.html

Somebody in my area bought it earlier this week from his local Mobil dist. It was $5.50/qt.

Oil

I once mistakenly use the wrong type of oil in my
MB and later discovered I had recently been registered as a democrat. What a shock.
