C280 No Reverse Gear

I have a 1995 C280 w/240k miles that will no longer go into reverse gear (unless I 'gun' the engine). Transmission fluid/filter has not been changed in over 100k miles...could this fix the problem or is it time for a new transmission? Thanks!

Sounds like either bad reverse piston seals or reverse clutches. Quite unlikely that a fluid change will have any impact. It's going to have to come out and with that mileage you might as well rebuild the whole thing.

Many praise the merits of Trans-X to get a little more life out of your clutches and seals. Yours may be a little too far gone but it's worth a try before pulling and rebuilding (a veritable PITA). On the other hand, no fluid change over the course of what should have been 3 changes, may be the only thing still holding the clutch packs and seals together.

Thanks a bunch! I will definitely consider Trans X prior to an overhaul. What are your thoughts on exchanging for a trans with 75k on it?
