86 420SEL - Need Valve Spring Compressor Tool

Hi folks,

Looking for valve spring compressor tool in Detroit, MI area. Any ideas to a source. I was hoping to get this thing finished tomorrow, however, not sure with out the tool.

Was attempting timing chain and guides replacement and lost time. Only way out that I can figure is to take rockers out so all the valves are closed then retime the motor.

I removed the cam on the left side without removing the rockers and then reinstalled the cam. Now the cam feels tight in bores - won't spin by hand. Any ideas why?

Joe

I use a big screw driver and lever under an adjacent rocker. The spring does not need to be compressed much to slipout the rocker.

With the rockers out? With them in, it can turn by hand - but not easily.

If the rockers are out but the cam won't turn, you probably have at least 1 tower in incorrectly. There are guide rings on each cam tower that guides it into where it should go as you tighten the bolt. If the guide did not go in (or went in at an angle) the cam will not turn correctly.

I bought mine from Sears when I did my valve guide seals. Worked ok. About $15.00.
