they are rare as hens teeth but a five speed willl outdo an automatic by at least 5 mpg highway on those smaller benzes.

they are a lot more common on the 190 but a minisiule numer of fiver 300es were brought in to the us.

Thumbs up Mpg

Hi gang just wished to drop back in with the mpg on miss Debbie's 420sel.
We have now had several tank's of fuel purchased, The first three tank's are at 19 to 19.6 all three tank's had long runs of 110 mile trips, and(each way) half of that was interstate travel, Then we have a 15.6 for short travel of 20 mile round trips. 4 mpg seems a bit large but it reiterates my original point,no two people can hold the car at a steady throttle pressure in my home. This summer we will take some road trips and have a well rounded mpg average in the fall!

Last tank, I was down to a lovely 12 mpg. I think I may be back up to about 15 mpg now. Had the platinum plugs changed out, missing reduced, so we will see if that helps.

I've been getting 20 to 23 mpg's city with my M112 C280.
I think that's pretty decent.

The 5-cyl OM602 in the 124 300D 2.5T of the early 90's is a fantastic engine. No head problems or rod bending problems like those present in the OM603. I get a consistent 32-33mpg at 70-80mph in my 1990 version. Driving at 60 mph on a low visibility day got me 36mpg on a ~150 mile trip once. Not too bad in the power department for a diesel of its time, but still nowhere near the power of that 560. 0-60 of 12 sec when operating properly. Great commuter car, you get the fuel efficiency of a diesel with the comfort and superb suspension of the smaller 124.

'92 300SE, I usually get about 17 around town (400 or so miles to the tank requiring about 23 gal to fill up when the light comes on) and maybe 19 or 20 on the highway. I've not had it on any trip longer than 50mi on the highway, so hopefully a longer leg trip will return 21 or 22.

Off to Austin tomorrow, so that should be a good test of the highway MPG.
