Aditco Rebuilds?

So what is everybody's thoughts and experiences wit rebuilt components from Adsitco, I am thinking of purchasing a rebuilt long block and Tranny for my coupe and have it installed........

Not there is anything wrong with what I have the drivetrain has been bulletproof for 400k + miles...just want to update the mechanicals and run it for another 20+ years....

They HAVE a return policy? Do a search here, you may change your mind on Adsitco . I've heard Metric Motors Inc. is the way to go.

I used SunValley for my rebuilt tranny. Yes they do have rebuilds with 2 year unlimited mile warranty. They pay freight to return the core. My 91 300E rebuild was with 722.358 tranny was $1250 + 200 in freight charges. They say they dyno before ship, but mine looked very dry, so I can't say for sure.

My problem was reverse slipping very bad.

Hmmm. Why not just have the existing engine and transmission serviced and rebuilt as needed? Its much cheaper and your keeping the car whole rather than chopping it up. If your going to replace the engine and transmission why not just get a whole new car. Someone else can keep your car on the road and you can drive around in a lower mileage car.

I have always been uncomfortable with owners that replace whole engines and transmissions. Buyers often wonder what was so horribly wrong that the whole engine and transmission had to be replaced. Many buyers will assume that its a high mileage abused car. While at 400K your car has little collector value one never know's what the future holds.

With most MB engines the block's are known to last the lifespan of the car while the top end is what is generally overhauled. Realistically even if you put in a new engine and transmission a car with that kind of mileage is not going to be any more reliable. My 300SD has over 380K and still drives great but I know enough not to push my luck by using it as a full time everyday commuter car. Sort of like taking a 75 year old grandmother and expecting her to do an olympic marathon.

Sun Valley can rebuild a transmission in a couple days I think. Which means it can be rebuilt and back in the car in record time. Is this true? Do they do that? That's cool. Do they build motors too???

Sun Valley

I've been looking around at these guys online and they are amazing. Not only do they have a page of big photos from a trip to the Classic Museum in Stuttgart but they have a few businesses. They sell used tested parts with warranty. They have over 200 cars in the yard. They build motors and transmissions. Then they also have a new parts store, which is online and has everything you could ever want to build motors and transmissions yourself. The online new parts store is great, they have photos, descriptives, parts numbers, all brand names for all items and great prices. They show what is available, what is a genuine item, what list prices are and what they are selling it for. It's all premium stuff, no crap and great prices. Very honest and informative site. Just what i've been looking for. From looking at the catalog I've learned more about the Trans. Modulator Valve and the Torque Convertor Seal and Trans Rear Seal Ring and everything for gaskets and seals. They have everything here. And they are in my backyard. I think I'm driving out to see them ASAP. Thanks again for the heads up on Sun Valley.

PS Now I can build my own motor and trans and swap them for the originals. Then build the originals and put them back in or keep as original extra back-up.

Yes but they are expensive.

I don't know what engine he has but a 603 crate engine runs about $13k, throw in another $2,500-$3k for a brand new trans.

I wouldn't put that kind of money into a 400k mile car. Buy a better example.

If he has an M119, then we are talking about $20k.

Metric Motors IS the way to go. since I've guit rebuilding engines 10 years ago I've used metric quite a few times. They do a very complete job. They do only mbz. Gus "the man" from pacific fuel injection rebuilds their injection pumps. I've never had a problem

Just make sure you have enough time to dedicate to the project. I have seen so many actual classic cars disassembled by their owners only to have schedule changes or a loss of interest leave them as spare parts in greasy boxes in a garage somwhere.

Another option for you. Rather than butcher your current CE with engine swap hell why not get an additional CE. It sounds like you drive it every day. With two cars the mileage would be split in half on them both and if one goes down you have the other. Cheaper and easier than engine swaps.

Just an FYI. I have driven cars that have had engine swaps. It takes quite some time to get them completely sorted out. With all the Vacuum lines and electrical connections sometimes things are connected wrong. I owned a car and had to have a new engine put in it (japanese car) and it took months to solve some issues with the transmission shifting funky from time to time.
