Neg amp reading simply means you have incorrect polarity of the leads.

The meter to use for the current can be a digital and it will auto range and show the polarity changing. Arthor is correct, on a mechanical meter, with the leads "correct polarity" positive current will drive the meter up scale. Negative current will drive it down scale. Ther isn't much travel down scale before the needle hits the limit peg.

Just reverse the leads at the meter if the needle is pegging negative.

The meter I use for ratio is a mechanical needle dwell meter because it moves too quick for the digital to keep up. But I use the digital for the current, seems to keep up with the changes well enough.

Fianally getting to meassure the EHA current? Keep us posted.
