Stuck Ignition Switch Plug !
Greetings Forum Members,
I am in the process of changing the ignition switch on my 1985 280sl. The steering wheel is off and the instrument cluster is out of the dash but I cannot pull the electrical plug off of the old switch. It seems to be stuck onto the old switch. Has anyone experieced this problem? Are the pins stuck due to oxidation or corrosion or is there a particular technique for removing the plug that I'm not doing? I'm open to suggestions. I'm considering carefully cutting the aluminum casing of the old switch to get some penitrant oil on the plug and switch pins thinking that corrosion is the problem. I've changed this switch before on a 69 280se coup and the plug just pulled off of the switch, no problem. Thanks, Knarf

you have to put ignition in position 1 before the plug will come off.old security designed to slow down thieves.
