Question "New" 500SEL - Whining noise coming from trunk

I inherited a 500SEL which I drove for the first time today and there's this constant whining noise coming from somewhere in the trunk. Is this the fuel pump? Vacuum pump?

I tried a search but I haven't been able to find any other threads on this. Someone please tell me this isn't normal, it's driving me .

Other than that this car seems very nice. Just gotta get me some Euro lights!

It may well be a fuel pump on the way out, have a listen to the right rear (from the back of the car - LHD passenger side) when the car is started, but stationary, you should be able to hear the pump whirr but not whine.

Cheers

It could be a loud fuel pump, but that doesn't necessarily mean its soon to fail. It may whine like that for years before failing.
