"New" 500SEL - Whining noise coming from trunk

I inherited a 500SEL which I drove for the first time today and there's this constant whining noise coming from somewhere in the trunk. Is this the fuel pump? Vacuum pump?

I tried a search but I haven't been able to find any other threads on this. Someone please tell me this isn't normal, it's driving me

Other than that this car seems very nice. Just gotta get me some Euro lights!
