Car won't start after exceeding service B

Hello!
I have 2001 C320. I changed my oil and filter and car was running fine
but wan't able to reset MSS. I always had a service B exceeded message
when I start vehicle. Today my car doesn't start and showed Service B
exceed 5700 miles.

I appreciated for any help to start my car so that I can take it
to Dealer.

My e-mail is techew@yahoo.com

Thank you so much!!!

It helps to be more descriptive than "doesn't start."

Does the motor crank and not start or does it not crank?

If it doesn't crank, you need a battery in all liklihood.

Mercedes does NOT disable your car if you exceed the service interval, so there is no cause/effect.

Car won't start after exceeding service B

As I turn my key to start, I see the engine light on and
display Service B exceeded 5700 miles; engine doesn't start or
crank....
It ran fine till last night.
I changed oil and filter two weeks ago myself and ran fine
but was not able to reset service B and the MSS counting was
not reset.
Would the computer in C320 prevent me to start my engine
since I exceeded certain milage from Service B mode???
Thanks for any advice and help!!

won't start

Hello Mike,

I will try with other key.
Do you think it is the battery in my key?
I hope that you are right....
Exceeding service B would not cause the car computer to
prevent me to start is not the case?
One more thing, today is very cold day 6 degrees F here...

Thanks!

Tony,

Tony,

In no way, shape, or form will exceeding the service disable your car from starting.

As mentioned check your car battery.

Won't start

Hello Kent,

I did not think about battery...
I will also try to jumper the battery with other vehicle and making sure that it is the case...

If I have a poor bettery then I thought C320 instrument panel
would tell me so but I did not see any indication last night.
It is very cold here... I don't know the temp has anything to do with it...
My other older vehicle "toyota" started...

Opened the hood...battery doesn't appears easily...
It must be covered by something but I could not see it easily,,

Thanks!

Tony,

battery is undeer the air filter at the right rear corner of the engine bay. The 01 C's were notorious for battery draw problems caused by (mostly) bad seat control modules. If your battery is toast and you put a new one in, check your amperage draw after the CAN network goes to sleep (wait about 30 mins to be sure), otherwise youre going to have another dead battery soon.

Agree, try charging the battery (out of the car). Mercs will try and retain enough power to keep the lights and other functions going even when the battery can't provide enough power to start the engine.

I wouldn't recommend a jump start, I've heard rumours of horror stories with damaged ECUs from less than clean power supplies. Pull the battery out of the car and charge it up.

Hello John and Mr Doom,

Thanks for your advice...
I will take the battery out and charge it and try it to start the engine.
>>John,
Mr. Doom warned me about not use jumper to start the c320...
Did you experience same issue like Mr. Doom describe?
Thanks!

No, I've never had a problem charging a battery in the car provided it was in good shape and full. It won't hurt to take it out an charge it if you wish.

Lead Acid battery capacity and voltage both go down with temperature. A newer battery in good condition could probably survive that temp fine, but an older one maybe not.

Hello Guys,
I appreciate for your help!!
It was my battery and it is running fine.
After I replace with new battery, I got a error message
ESP not programmed. How can I enable the ESP again?
I pressed the ESP button on the front panel but did not work.

Can you advice me how I can enable it again?

Thanks!

Try this.
Turn steeringwheel all the way to the left & hold for a few seconds, then all the way to the right for a & hold few seconds.
