94' SL600- OVP- overload/overvoltage relay location
After hours and hours of searching in my 1994 sl600 and through every online source, I am unable to locate the OVP relay. I bought a new OVP relay which lists application for a 94' SL600 but I am now questioning whether the car has one. One or two threads online indicate it only comes on California cars, but I note that one of the stickers on my (non-California) car shows that it meets CA emission standards. Alldata shows the OVP relay in the module compartment on the passenger side firewall area immediately adjacent to the engine's computers. However, the Alldata picture shown is entirely different than the configuration of the components in that area in my car and, most notably there is no OVP relay anywhere in the engine compartment. To know avail, I have checked all fusebox areas in the engine compartment and the trunk thoroughly.
My review of the internet threads has been equally a loss. There are several discussions about the OVP on the SL600 but, when questioned, nobody gives a straight answer where it is located. I am beginning to think the '94 SL 600 does not have an OVP relay. If anyone knows the exact location of the OVP for the 129 series, 1994 SL600 I would sure appreciate it!!!!! Thanks! Ray |

The V engines of that year did not use OVPs....

Arthur: comments on the fiction of '94 SL600 OVP relays
Arthur,
Thanks so very much for your response to my question. I note you have 3999 prior posts. I read a few and you obviously know what you are talking about in this field. I do not. It seems incredible that vendors would sell me an OVP for this car when it was not so equipped and alldata.com would vainly attempt to show me, by diagrams, where it "is," but truly isn't. What a waste of time. I wanted the OVP to be there to "fix" the issues in my car, but it isn't there so I must look elsewhere. In this case, I suspect, the voltage regulator and/or the alternator. Once again, thank you for taking the time to help me. I sincerely appreciate it. You had other things to do, but you chose to take a moment to educate me. In the future, your post will educate many others who would otherwise spend fruitless hours searching down a blind path to find an overvoltage/overload relay in a 1994 SL600 that does not exist. Thanks again, from Ray in Nebraska. |

The OVP "relay" is the "Base Module". Check MENU#8; there's four (4) fuses mounted on top.
