'94 SL600 voltage regulator/alternator problem?
1994 SL600 working fine, no sounds, no nothing (new battery a few months ago) A few days ago I park it. 8 hours later, battery is dead, and I mean dead. Correctly jump start it next day. Drive it 8 miles home. SRS light remains on throughout and there is a whine from the engine (sounds like alternator) which remains at all times during the trip home. Suddenly, at approximately mile 7 on the way home, 6 or 8 dash lights come on dimly (call them 50% lit). Power windows don't work. About 3 blocks later Car dies. Attempt restart but nothing, no dash lights, nothing, not even a click from the starter. Put on jumper cables again and jump start it again and get it home.
Since then, diagnostics. Battery fully recharged but discharges over time. Will start on recharge but SRS light remains on and whine (alternator?) is now always present (even with fully charged battery).
From our forum, I am now informed that this car does not have an overvoltage relay (OVP). Is this an alternator/voltage regulator problem or something else?
Thanks so much! Ray
