300TE Revving at 1200rpm HELP

Hi techies;

My pops 93 300TE just started staying idling at 1200 RPM.

Any idea what this could be and what we should do?

Thanks!

AA

Check the idle air valve is plugged in, and the connections aren't loose or corroded. Its also a good idea to give it a clean through with carb cleaner.
Try unplugging it to see if the idle increases further. If so, then you must have a vacuum leak on the engine side of the throttle body ie. the intake manifold.

1200 Rpm

Check the following;Overvoltage relay, CC/ISC gets power via OVP.
Floor mat pushed up against pedal.
sticking linkages starting at the pedal.
I don't recommend using carb cleaner on the throttle body.

Under the air cleaner, on a "joint" of the throttle linkage (sorry, I don't know engine terminology) is your Thrust Cut-Off Switch -- a roller switch very similar in appearance to the image below, except it will be white or tan. (The image below is NOT the actual switch.)

If that switch fails, your RPMs will stay high when you lift your foot from the accelerator. It removes in 2 seconds and costs about $50.00 from the dealer.

You cannot visually determine if it is faulty, nor do so by hand. If the linkage it depressing the switch arm, and your RPM is not dropping, the switch is broken.

Note:

Because you have a '93 car, your engine is different, and you may not have this switch. (I had that problem on my 89 260E)
