(1987 260E 2.6L) How easy to replace distributor & rotor?

Is it easy to replace the distributor on this car? I know u can take it out easily as it is at the top and visible. But do you have to make sure the timing and rotor position is correct etc? What is there to be aware off? I have bought the distributor & rotor but haven't gotten to it yet? However maybe its time to seriously think about it.
