(1987 260E 2.6L) How easy to replace distributor & rotor?
1987 260E
Is it easy to replace the distributor on this car? I know u can take it out easily as it is at the top and visible. But do you have to make sure the timing and rotor position is correct etc? What is there to be aware off? I have bought the distributor & rotor but haven't gotten to it yet? However maybe its time to seriously think about it. |

throne7, replacing the distributor cap and rotor is very straightforward. The terminals on the distributor cap are marked with the corresponding cylinder ... be sure that the spark plug wires get reconnected to the correct terminals. Note the orientation of the distributor cap and rotor before disassembly and orient the new parts the same way.

It' a pretty straightforward job.
Once you have removed the the black plastic cover, there are 3 bolts to undo on the distributor cap. The bottom (hidden) bolt is a bit tricky if you do not have the proper tool. Replacing the distributor cap and rotor will not have any effect on the engine timing. |
