Cruise control problems '87 300e

Hi folks,

Working on the cruise control now that the car actually drives! The cruise will only engage over 60mph and then it will only continuously accelerate. I'm pretty sure the speed sensor is not the problem since I'm on my 3rd speedometer and it demonstrated the same problem with all 3. I read a link that suggested pulling the amplifier out and resoldering all of the joints on the circuit board. I pulled the amp and resoldered the joints for the plug, but the rest are covered with some sort or coating which makes soldering difficult (besides I tested about 30 of those joints and they all tested fine). I'd like some opinions before I blow another wad of cash on a new amplifier only to find that it's something else. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Thanks,

Bob Kopicki

Do a google search for cruise control repair. There were 3-4 companies that repaired the amps. I used Programa with good results. One of the other companies would help troubleshoot. I forget whether Programa did. The big decision is amp or actuators near the throttle. List the companies and that may jar my memory.

I just wrote an e-mail to programa for information on rebuilding the cruise amp. A rebuilt amp from ******** appears to run about $165 so we'll see how Programa compares - however Programa does look interesting with a 3 year warranty and tech support - that's gotta be worth something. Thanks for the info, I'll let the group know how it goes.

Also, do a search for GDL

General Development Labs.

LOTS of good info there as well as rebuilt amps.
