What type of tranny fluid do you use?

When you've had to add transmission fluid, do you use "only" MB brand or do you find that any other brand works just as well?

Since mine are fine with Dexron III, I use a name brand oil.

The MB brand ATF or MTF fluid sold here is actually supplied by Mobil-I so its pretty good, don't see any harm in using it except for the high cost.

To cut short all the fancy comment, yes you can use any DexronIII as long as its clean, any brand from pepboys or autozone or even gas stations will do. (don't be scared to use them just because some one out there would give a horrible write ups on the topic, a DexronIII is a DexronIII no matter what brand it is, not unless it was contaminated.

I agree. Dexron III is underrated.

But what model do you own, Husky?... and what fluid is specified for your model?

Don't forget about the 722.6

Generally speaking, most Mercedes built in or after 1997 require MB-only ATF (NOT Dexron III) - search 722.6 fluid for additional information.

It's given that synthetic transmission fluids are better for heat protection.

I use Mobil 1. 7 quarts at 7 dollars over 30k miles. Compared to 7 quarts at 3 dollars over 30k miles for dino. 49 dollars versus 21 dollars over 30k miles.

No brainer to me.

I buy cases of Chevron DexronIII/Mercon @ $0.59 per quart. After rebate.

It goes in all the Mercedes, the SVX and the F250's C6.

Cheers!

p.s. Other than routine (and frequent, I mught add) PM tranny services I've not had any transmission-related problem since the warranty replacement on the SVX @ 56K miles...
