W210/E320 regeneration valve ticking loudly

Recently on my '98 E320 the regeneration valve (fuel tank vent valve) started ticking very loudly. What do I need to do to resolve this? Will replacing the valve solve the problem or is the loud ticking a symptom of something else?

Thanks,
Paul

They had a change on the Purge Valve mount . Take the mount off and see if the sound softens...if not , change the valve. If it does , check a Dealer parts dept..not sure when that change was made.
You may also want to try with a squirt of WD into the hose port.

Where is this valve located and what it looks like? I think I can hear a faint ticking as well in my M112.

Thanks,

Arthur,

Thanks. Regarding the purge mount, do you know if that's the rubber attachment on the valve itself or where it mounts to the car? In other words, does buying a new valve get me a new mount or is that a separate part?

Considering it just recently started ticking really loud, I'm guessing I need a new valve. While I've got the fuel pressure relieved I think I'll replace my fuel filter. It's about due anyway.

loubapache,

You can find a picture of the part on FastLane, just search for E2014-127034. If you follow the fuel lines, you'll find it. From memory I think it's on the driver's side between the washer fluid refill and the shock mounts.

Thanks, benzthere.

Do you have a check engine light?

The rubber on the early ones was not pliable so the sound got transferred..that is why I said to dis-mount it when it is ticking..I think that yours is the newer one anyway.
The wd trick is to squirt it into the valve by taking the line off while it is operating .. if it is dirty [causing the noise], it will suck the debries through.
If that works, let it go..if not , buy a new one ..you can install it in 2 min.
..

loubapache - No check engine light, just noise.

Arthur - I'll give the WD40 trick a try.

I replaced the regeneration valve, and that solved the ticking problem. For what it's worth, here's the part number of the new valve. Note the part # on the box is different than the part # on the part itself.

A 000 470 55 93 - part # on box of new valve
A 000 416 97 32 - part # on new valve itself
000 470 15 93 - part # on old valve

Now on to solve the next noise...
