92 300 E Tack ranges
I was hoping somebody could tell me the proper ranges for the tack. Example, at 60 miles per hour what would be expected?
The car runs great but it feels at times the engine may be working to hard. This is a great site and its great getting the imput. J.D. 92 300 E 138,000 05 mustang G.T. 24,000 89 Jeep pick up 189,000 02 Dodge Ram Quad 5.8 78,000 77 Z28 2+2 64,000 |

Stop worrying. This is a small engine. It is geared to operate a what may appear to be higher than anticipated rpms. At 70 MPH you will be around 3,000 rpm's.
What you think of as working hard is actually the opposite. These engines will run all day at 5,000 rpm. My '92 300E has 242,000 miles of the last 140,000 90% were on the highway at between 70 and 80 mph. Valve train is still original. Highway miles at over 3,000 rpm are not harmful to this engine. Thanks Steve. I just bought the 300 E last week and this is my first one. It handles really well on the road. I hope I get the type of mileage you have. Once again thanks.

Yes, the 103 and 104 engines have no complaints whatsoever about high RPM. In fact they are a little peaky, so they are more efficient in the higher RPM range.
This is not to suggest that you run it to the red line all the time, but don't be afraid to rev it up when needed. |
