I posted awhile back about my seatbelt buckle (drivers side) being split apart, causing the SRS light to come on for about 90 seconds after every time I started the car.
Well I finally bought a new seatbelt today, installed it, and the SRS light was still on: expected. So I unplugged the batter which has cleared my Check Engine light in the past. This time, it didn't clear. So either the code needs to be cleared, or something else is wrong. What I am asking is, is it possible to clear the code w/o taking it to the dealer? I know this has been discussed, and I already have an appt., but just in case! THanks.

Normally you shouldn't turn the ignition key anymore as soon as you have one of the (SRS) red plugs disconnected. You probably have turned the ignition key while you had the seat belt buckle disconnected...
Taking it to the dealer to get the code cleared is what you should do...It is not possible to clear SRS codes by disconnecting the battery. N-E-1...anyone...It took me a while before I figured this one out, but I am getting there! greetingz,

No, I did not turn the ignition while putting in the new seatbelt. I actually had the batter disconnected the whole time. Upon putting the seatbelt back in and connecting the battery and starting the car, the SRS light still illuminated for about 90 seconds, as usual.
I took it to the dealer, they ran the test, cleared the code, checked it, and it didn't come back. Still hasn't come back. Everything's fine now. But $90 later, actually $190 for having them fix change all the lights in the cluster. $4 per light? And there are 24 back there? Wow, what a rip. OH well, they still gave me a deal because of the labor taking the cluster out. But they also told me that I would need a new cluster @ $900 since my gauges would stick sometime... I passed on that one!
